Design System Audit and Optimization for Scalability and Accessibility
A comprehensive audit of WM’s design system resolved key issues in accessibility, flexibility, and scalability. By prioritizing components for upcoming deliverables, we improved the customer experience and long-term design efficiency. Collaborating with branding and engineering, we refined 150+ components to enhance consistency, reduce errors, and improve usability.
Democratizing Sustainable Solutions
PSI (Partners in Sustainability Integration) aids organizations in developing and integrating customized technology and operational strategies to manage their energy, water, and waste initiatives. This project’s goal was to explore a web-based process engineering tool specifically designed to offer affordable, user-friendly, AI-driven solutions tailored for small to mid-sized companies aiming to reduce water consumption, energy usage, and waste production.
Enhancing Self-help to Reduce Call Volumes
As the largest waste collection company in North America, WM faced significant challenges managing the high volume of customer support calls. Consequently, reducing call volume became a primary goal for the company in 2023. I collaborated closely with a team of a UX designer, a content writer, and several front-end developers throughout the project to optimize the online self-help support flow and minimize call volumes.
Leading a Data-Driven Redesign of WM’s Mobile App
In the summer of 2022, I led WM’s Product Design Summer Internship Program, where I trained, mentored, and guided two design interns. Our primary focus was redesigning WM’s mobile app to enhance the overall user experience and drive customer satisfaction. We synthesized existing research data to inform our design decisions and developed thoughtful, user-centered solutions to address key pain points. The project was recognized across the company for its strong, data-driven approach to design.
Empowering Drivers: AI-Driven Route Optimization and Streamlined Feedback
As Waste Management (WM) implemented its AI tool, Newton, to optimize trash pickup routes, collecting driver feedback became essential for refining its efficiency. We provided a practical and user-friendly way for drivers to submit their feedback, to increase participation rates and continue improving Newton’s route optimization capabilities.
Improving the discoverability of BayCHI’s events to increase the number of attendees
BayCHI is a local chapter of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). BayCHI has been offering free monthly meetings on design and tech topics for the past 30 years with great speakers such as Jared Spool, Alan Cooper, and Don Norman on their list. The challenge was to design a mobile-responsive website to increase the outreach and the number of attendees.
